If ascending dampness stays long enough in mason work (talking particularly about decades or centuries) moisture has enough time to dissolve salts from the ground and building materials.
Salt combined with water gives water a whole new quality and suddenly water becomes conductive.
This causes electrical processes but is currently not an item.
Combined with water salt is only able to be divided from it if water evaporates, which usually happens on the masonry surface.
How much mould is acceptable?

There are no official standards about mould pollution in the air of a room. To this date there hasn’t been any ordinance passed by the EU just because in this case it’s nearly impossible:
Mould and its spores are so common like the air that we breathe.
Our bodies are already used to some kinds of mould, but there are also some which can turn out dangerous or even cause deadly diseases.

One of the most beautiful memorial treasures near Lake Maggiore is definitely the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso.
But the cloister hasn’t been untroubled by damp walls. So our company took the first installation in hand in the last quarter of 2009 which was far in excess of normal dehumidification technology of landmarked buildings.

When Guido Keil decided to use the ECODRY dehumidification system in summer 2005 he first felt doubtfully.
So far every other try to get rid of dampness in the walls of his huge and massive vaulted cellar failed.
